FROM VARSITY COACH JIM BRAGG:
Our ultimate goal is to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ through our athletic participation. We embrace the values of Hernando Christian Academy. We believe that the basketballcourt develops life-related skills - a strong work ethic, integrity, self-control, teamwork, discipline, self-sacrifice, physical fitness, and a positive attitude. Sportsmanship and competition provide the challenge that helps young students to better themselves. We try to help our athletes understand that a successful team requires a great deal of time and dedication by each member of the team. We also try to help our players understand that basketball is not something separate and distinct from their school and religious experience - that discipline must be exemplified both on and off the court. In teaching these lessons, we give our athletes a taste of several skills essential to a successful life after HCA. Our coaching staff is committed to each player in our program. In return for each girl's commitment to us, we have pledged to be understanding and fair. Each parent and player must realize that a commitment often extends beyond the regular season. It takes extra time and effort to be successful. Our coaching staff also recognizes that a successful program requires positive parental support and cooperation. In return, we strive to be mindful of the impact our scheduling can have on family life and more importantly, the impact coaching decisions have on each girl. Finally, we recognize that basketball is a game, and that young athletes are attracted to the sport primarily because it is fun. We will never lose sight of this fact. We believe that successful basketball and fun basketball can live together in a program devoted to team basketball. We are committed to holding our athletes accountable in exhibiting Christian-like character. Through basketball, it is our interest to build qualities and values consistent with God's word.
